Kevin Prendergast is hoping Haatef will show his true colours in a end-of-season campaign that is being mapped out for him.
The colt, who is owned by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, failed to live up to expectations when only 10th to Cockney Rebel in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.
He then missed the Irish equivalent at the Curragh as he did not work well in the run-up to the race and his blood was not 100 per cent.
"He's coming back nicely now and we'll have a backend campaign for him," said Prendergast yesterday. "He's in several races, including the July Cup. We'll just play it by ear.
"I wouldn't be too worried about the six furlongs and I still don't believe he doesn't get a mile."
After making a winning debut at the Curragh last August, Haatef was an excellent fourth to Teofilo in the Dewhurst Stakes on his only other start as a two-year-old.
Prendergast is also looking forward to running Mores Wells in the Budweiser Irish Derby at the Curragh on July 1st. "He is heading for the Irish Derby - that's his next outing," he continued. "They usually have the ground pretty spot on for the Derby. The horse couldn't be better."
Mores Wells looked a bright prospect when winning the Group Three Ballysax Stakes over 10 furlongs at Leopardstown in April and was then fourth to Archipenko over the same course and distance in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial last month.
Meanwhile, Followmyfootsteps, who ran with great credit in both the French and Irish 2000 Guineas, will not run until later in the season.
The David Wachman-trained son of Giant's Causeway only had one run as a juvenile but has emerged as a classy three-year-old this term.
He was beaten just over three lengths behind Aidan O'Brien's Astronomer Royal at Longchamp before finishing three lengths in arrears of dual Guineas winner Cockney Rebel at the Curragh. He holds an entry in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot but Wachman is keen to give him a break.
"I'll probably put him away until August or September time," said the Co Tipperary handler. "He has an entry in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood (August 1st) but that may come just a tad too soon for him. He's still very inexperienced but he has shown a high level of form already. He might just turn into a nice four-year-old."
* Godolphin can capture Goodwood's Empire Property Group On The House Stakes this afternoon with Army Of Angels, a narrow winner from Take A Bow at Windsor.
