Waterford IT 0-18 UCC 1-10:TIPPERARY'S Timmy Hammersley guided Waterford IT to a home quarter-final in the Fitzgibbon Cup with a masterly display at the Mardyke yesterday.

Holders UCC, who started brilliantly with a Stephen Moylan goal after just 30 seconds, must travel to UL as a result.

Hammersley was the game’s most influential performer, contributing 13 points in a fully merited Waterford IT victory.

He notched seven first-half points as Waterford led 0-9 to 1-5 at the interval and then came good again in the closing stages.

UCC substitute Luke O’Farrell cut the deficit to a point, 0-13 to 1-9, with eight minutes left, but Hammersley accounted for four of his team’s last five points, including a long-range free from his own 65, to see Waterford IT home.
