HOCKEY: Cork Harlequins, the all-Ireland champions, face their first meaningful test of the season when they take on Cork C of I in the Munster Senior League at Farmer's Cross tomorrow.

C of I have doubts about the fitness of Ali Dunne and Nigel Buttimer for tomorrow's clash, whereas Harlequins may be closer to full strength. Wesley Bateman is back in training while John Hobbs hopes to have recovered from a knock sustained in last weekend's interpro against Ulster.

An interesting newcomer in the Harlequins squad is former under-21 international Colm Brady, from Avoca (for whom Mark Cullen has returned to action, joining his contemporaries Peter Agnew and coach Johnny Watterson in a bid to make up for lost ground in Leinster circles). Harlequins are also involved in the Peard Cup final against Limerick at Villiers School on Monday.

In Dublin this weekend, Glenanne may be sufficiently focused to regain the Stephen Doyle Trophy as Leinster's top four sides gather at Grange Road. In tomorrow's first semi-final, though, Glenanne will be conscious of their 2-1 defeat by Corinthians earlier this month.

The second semi-final will be keenly fought by Monkstown as they aim to repeat a 3-1 win over Pembroke Wanderers in the Neville Cup on Tuesday. Gordon Clarke has settled in for Shane Davy (gone to Australia) in the Monkstown goal. The captain, David Johnston, will miss tomorrow's match if a hand injury proves too painful.

Pembroke will be relatively relaxed as Stephen Doran is home to deputise for Nigel Henderson, while Devin Donnelly and New Zealander Peter Long will also be out of town. However, Duncan McKeen will be back to restore maturity to the defence. If Pembroke can make better use of Gordon Elliott's swift breaks, they may go closer to the 3-0 margin they achieved against Monkstown on the opening day of the season, setting up another clash with Glenanne in Sunday's final.

TOMORROW: Munster Senior League: Harlequins v Cork C of I, Farmers Cross, 2.0. Leinster Top Four (Stephen Doyle Trophy) semi-finals: At Grange Road: Corinthians v Glenanne, 12.0 (back pitch); Monkstown v Pembroke Wanderers, 4.0 (front pitch); Wright Carey Trophy semi-finals: Corinthians II v Monkstown II, 2.0 (front pitch); Glenanne II v Pembroke Wanderers II, 2.0 (back pitch).

SUNDAY: Stephen Doyle Trophy final, Grange Road, 2.0; Wright Carey Trophy final, 4.0.

MONDAY: Peard Trophy final: Limerick HC v Harlequins, Villiers School, 2.0.
