GOLF:PADRAIG HARRINGTON began his PGA Tour campaign for the year with an impressive performance on the opening day of the ATT Pebble Beach National Pro-am.

Despite a bogey on his third hole and another on his 17th, the Irishman last night carded a three-under-par first round on the same course that Graeme McDowell lifted the US Open last summer.

American Steve Marino sits at the top of the leaderboard after a seven-under-par 63 at Monterey Peninsula Country Club, which included three birdies in his final four holes.

One shot further back is Alex Cejka, whose first round included an albatross at the par-five 10th hole, his first of the day. The German followed that with six birdies and three bogeys.
