Quail Hollow Championship:Pádraig Harrington missed the cut in Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte after he signed for a 75 in his second round to lie on three-over-par. American Bubba Watson and South African Retief Goosen are the halfway leaders on eight-under-par, while overnight leader Tiger Woods is one off the pace after a bogey on the 18th.
Dubliner Harrington had a disastrous end to his first round yesterday, triple-bogeying the 17th and dropping two more at the last to fall back to one under after a promising start.
He continued in the same manner today. Though he birdied the fifth, there were bogeys on the second, sixth and seventh, while after the turn he dropped three shots over the 10th and 11th.
Birdies on the 12th and 15th spared him having to sign for a 77 but the end result wasn’t much better and he now lies three shots off the projected cut.
Englishman Justin Rose will also sit out the weekend after finishing six over.
Zach Johnson (67) and George McNeill (68) are level with Woods after the world number one had to settle for a 72. Jim Furyk is alongside them after a 66.
Round of the day went to Watson, whose seven-under-par 65 came courtesy of of eight birdies and an eagle on the seventh.
Goosen was four under for the day after a second 68, but a bogey on the last cost him the outright lead.
Camilo Villegas shot a 67 to reach the halfway point on six under, level with Phil Mickelson and Jason Dufner, both of whom could only manage a 71.
England’s Ross Fisher rose up the leaderboard on the back of a 67 to sit on four under, one shot behind defending champion Anthony Kim and one ahead of Ian Poulter.
