Padraig Harrington will be a welcome guest at the East of Ireland Alliance when he returns for the winter break. Now in its fifth season, the Alliance offers regular golf for amateurs of 10 handicap or better and professionals. Play is on Wednesdays at The European Club in Brittas, and the entry fee is £30 for amateurs and £15 for professionals.

A golf classic in aid of 16-year-old Niamh Shorte from Templeroan who is ill in St James's Hospital will be played at Tulfarris golf club tomorrow. All funds raised go to defray the cost of special equipment needed by Niamh's family to care for her in the home.

The Teachers' Golfing Society celebrate their 75th anniversary with a trip to Portugal which takes place from October 23rd to 30th. The celebration dinner will be in Howth golf club on Friday, November 26th. Long serving President is Paul Noonan, who joined the society in the thirties.

Terenure College, who have contested five schools' finals in the last three years qualified for another when they led the qualifiers in the Golf Foundation team championship for schools at Beech Park recently. Their team of Donal Dunlop (80), Richard Muldowney (76) and Aidan Murphy (80) for a total of 236 gave them a four-shot winning margin over Presentation College, Bray with St Mary's Academy, Carlow taking the third qualifying place on 243. Mark Redmond, a five handicapper from De La Salle, Wicklow, won the individual with a 76.
