VALERIE HASSETT shot around of 76 yesterday in the British Women's Seniors Open amateur golf championship at Pyle Kenfig, South Wales.

Hassett, the only Irish competitor in the 54-hole event, is four strokes behind defending champion and four times winner Angela Uzielli.

Hassett did not start well, three-putting the seventh and eighth greens and then taking a double bogey six at the ninth.

However, she kept her head on the tougher homeward half. Following five pars, she dropped a stroke at the short 15th but got it back at the last with a splendid birdie three.
