World Rankings: Frenchman Gregory Havret leapt 205 places to 115th in the latest world rankings after his victory in the Scottish Open yesterday.
The 30-year-old Havret beat American left-hander Phil Mickelson
on the first playoff hole at Loch Lomond to register only the
second European Tour win of his career. He also won the 2001
Italian Open.
Mickelson moved up one spot to number two behind Tiger Woods
in the rankings while South African Ernie Els climbed to fourth
after finishing third in Scotland.
American Jonathan Byrd jumped 41 positions to number 68 after
winning the John Deere Classic in Illinois.
Padraig Harrington remains the highest ranked Irishman by a considerable margin as he holds his place at 10th in the world. The Dubliner opted not to compete at Loch Lomond and instead wons the PGA Irish Championship at the European Club.
Harrington felt this was better preparation for this week's Open at Carnoustie as it was played over a tough links. It is the fourth time he has won the national PGA title when he beat Brendan McGovern in a play-off.
Graeme McDowell's tied 11th finish in Scotland means he is 118th in the world standings, while Darren Clarke, who closed with a final round 66 at the Scottish event, is 124th. Paul McGinley remains well down the rankings at 170th.
