Golf:A third day of play was lost to wind at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii leaving organisers looking at a rare Tuesday finish. As on Friday, play was under way when gusts of up to 50mph caused play to be abandoned, but the field will start from scratch again on Monday, when it is hoped 36 holes will be played.
"We tried," Slugger White, PGA Tour vice president of rules and competition, said. "We were okay for 30-45 minutes, then the bottom fell out. It's unfortunate. It started off bad and got worse."
Play did get under way, albeit four hours late, but hopes of fitting in 36 holes always looked fanciful.
With balls being blown off tees and greens, a cancellation was inevitable.
Before this weekend a round had not been restarted on the PGA Tour since 2005. The first round here will have been restarted twice.
With organisers now hoping to fit in 36 holes on Monday and 18 the next day, players are facing the first Tuesday finish to a PGA Tour event since 2006.
