Northern Ireland's Jimmy Heggarty remains in position to claim his card on the European Senior Tour going into the final day of qualifying school in Portugal. The Claremorris-based professional shot a one-under-par 70 over the Pinta Course at Pestana Golf Resort and lies in a tie for sixth spot on three-under.
He got off to a poor start after bogeying the third and fourth holes to drop back to level. He cancelled those out with birdies on the eighth and tenth before carding his third bogey at the 14th.
But back to back birdies on the 15th and 16th got him back below par to join England's Peter Allen and Mike Williams of Zimbabwe on three-under.
American Greg Towne leads the way on 10-under-par, three shots clear of Argentina's Alfonso Barrera and Bertus Smit of South Africa.
The top six players after tomorrow's final round will win full credentials for next year's Senior Tour, while those placed from seventh to 14th will receive limited playing rights.
