SPORTS DIGEST:  Tim Henman's "calculated risk" paid off in the Davis Cup clash with Thailand, but his luck will have to hold for two more days for Britain to avoid relegation.

Henman recovered from a shaky start to beat world number 204 Danai Udomchoke 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-2 in the World Group qualifying tie at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

But Martin Lee's comprehensive straight-sets defeat to Paradorn Srichaphan made the match score level at 1-1 and puts more pressure on Henman to partner Miles Maclagan to victory in today's doubles.

ATHLETICS: Paula Radcliffe and Sonia O'Sullivan - who are targeting major North American marathon titles in the next few weeks - clash head-to-head in London's Richmond Park tomorrow morning.

Radcliffe, winner of the Commonwealth 5,000 metres and European 10,000 metres gold medals this summer, and O'Sullivan are looking for something different from the Nike London 10km Fun Run.

Radcliffe, returning from her French Pyrenees training base of Font Romeau, said: "I'll be running as hard as I can." In contrast, O'Sullivan is using the race purely as a fun run. Immediately afterwards she will fly to New York where organisers there will announce this year's worst kept athletics secret - her participation in the Big Apple marathon on November 3rd.

GREYHOUND RACING: An exciting sporting venue opens tonight in Waterford. Kilcohan Park, the €3.5m greyhound stadium and night-time entertainment venue will open its doors at 7p.m.

The new enterprise, which will employ over 70 people, is far more than just a greyhound track. The venue has two restaurants and three bars.

Michael Higgins, Kilcohan Park racing manager said: "We are delighted with the new-look Kilcohan Park. We can now offer racegoers the ultimate combined package of sport and entertainment which is unrivalled in the Waterford area."

Racing at Kilcohan Park is held every Wednesday and Saturday night. On Saturdays the entertainment continues, long after racing with live music from 10.30 p.m. to midnight.
