Henry declares Lions squad fit

Lions coach Graham Henry last night declared his squad fit on the eve of their trip to Australia

Lions coach Graham Henry last night declared his squad fit on the eve of their trip to Australia. The New Zealand-born coach had his heart in his mouth yesterday morning as Lions captain Martin Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson played a limited role in training.

Bath centre Mike Catt was another absentee from training and Gloucester prop Phil Vickery limped back to team headquarters after turning his ankle.

However, Henry dismissed the injuries as minor knocks and vowed every member of the touring party would be fit for the three-Test battle against the world champions next month.

He said: "Martin Johnson has a bit of a sore neck this morning and was only able to join in some parts of training. The injury is not serious. And Jonny Wilkinson finished training early today because he felt a twinge in his groin. Jonny's had the injury for some time but it's an occupational hazard if you kick so much.

"Mike Catt didn't train again today but I'm sure he will be all right and Dai Young took part in some training after injuring his calf. The only worry is Phil Vickery. He went over on his ankle but there's nothing serious there."

Henry confirmed his walking wounded would all board today's scheduled flight to Australia. He singled out Lawrence Dallaglio for the speed of his recovery from a serious knee injury.
