Women's Hockey: The leading clubs in the Leinster first division began the new season much as they finished the last, with defending champions Hermes and runners-up Loreto opening with comfortable victories on Saturday.

An Aoife Mitchell hat-trick, along with two Jenny Burke goals, helped Hermes to a 7-0 defeat of Clontarf, while Loreto beat Three Rock 6-2, having led 4-0 at half-time. Sarah Scott and Jessica Lynch scored two apiece.

Railway Union, third last season, beat Corinthian 2-1 while Old Alexandra and Pembroke Wanderers drew 0-0.
