Sigerson Cup Garda College 1-4 UCC 0-6Garda Training College held out for victory over UCC in the Sigerson Cup at wet and windy Templemore yesterday after substitute Shane Hickey pointed three minutes from time to give his side victory.
This game was very much in doubt considering the atrocious conditions but referee Pat Meade decided the pitch was playable. As conditions worsened during the game it became a real dogfight and Garda College just about had the physical presence to hold off UCC.
UCC led at the interval 0-4 to 0-3 - Tipperary's Brian Mulvihill getting three of their scores. But a Garda goal from Stephen Kelly five minutes after resumption proved to be the crucial score. UCC were back on terms with five minutes to go, but substitute Hickey kept his head to give Garda the victory.
Best for Garda were Graham Dillon, Cormac Bane, Rory Guinan and Mike O'Shea while for UCC, Patrick Kelly, Brian Mulvihill, Michael Shiels, Michael Cussen and Donal O'Donovan were to the fore.
