Local knowledge proved a key element to the recent Rider Cup, a new interclub competition which was held in Highfield golf club for the first time last month. The event featured six local midland clubs, with hosts Highfield facing Edenderry, Castle Barna, County Meath, Woodlands and the Curragh.
Ten players, who qualified from their own club golfer of the year, featured on each team, with the format being foursomes and fourball on the Saturday and then singles on the Sunday. Highfield proved far too strong for the opposition, winning an incredible 15 1/2 points out of a possible 18 to claim the trophy. It is hoped to make this an annual event at Highfield.
