In-form trainer Philip Hobbs can land a double at Fontwell today with Tantivy Bay and Twin Falls. The Somerset handler started the New Year with a bang, sending out five winners last Monday, and he is currently pushing Paul Nicholls for second place in the trainers' table in Britain behind Martin Pipe.
His horses are clearly in the best of health at present and Tantivy Bay should prove the point by collecting the Docker Hughes Memorial Challenge Trophy Novices' Hurdle.
Successful in a National Hunt Flat race at Towcester on his debut last season, the six-year-old has improved with each outing over hurdles this term and got off the mark when stepped up to two and a half miles on this course on New Year's Eve.
The extra quarter mile he has to tackle today will be ideal for the stamina-packed gelding.
Stamina could also win the day for Twin Falls in the Binsted Handicap Chase over an extended three and a quarter miles.
He stayed on well at the finish when a close fourth over three miles at Uttoxeter last time.
Major Dundee looks best in a field of largely out-of-form runners in the West Sussex Hurdle, while Western Command is the best bet on the all-weather Flat card at Wolverhampton. The four-year-old scored by a length on this course last month.
