Ulster's Michael Hoey and Jonathan Caldwell will be playing on the European Tour next season after both finished in the top 30 in the final stage of the qualifying school in Golf de Catalunya, near Girona in Spain.

Hoey made sure of his place with a near flawless round on the Green Course, carding a 67 tarnished by a solitary bogey on the fifth.

Caldwell left himself teetering on the brink but scraped in after a 74 dropped him to six under and a tie for 29th.

The top 30 secure category 11 Tour cards that have, for the past six seasons, been good enough for an average of 18 tournaments.

Michael McGeady came agonisingly close but after starting the day in a tie for 30th, he bogeyed the last for a 72 and a share of 33rd on five under.

Simon Thornton finished on level par after a 71.

Both are eligible for a category 14 Tour card and a category seven membership of the Challenge Tour.

Swede Oskar Henningsson was the overall winner after another hugely impressive round left him with a 21-under-par total of 409.

Spain's Carlos Del Moral and Australia's Wade Ormsby were four shots behind him, while England's Danny Willett, who led at one stage was fourth on 16 under.

Henningsson, who led for five of the six rounds, became the first player to come through stages one and two of the qualifying school and go on to win the 108-hole final.

"To be the first guy to win coming through all three stages is a great achievement and it will give me a lot of confidence going into the new season," said the 23-year-old Swede.

"It's been my goal for the season to get on tour and I feel well prepared to go out on the main circuit and make an impression."
