WIT 0-15 UCD 1-12:WIT AND UCD will have to do it all again after playing out a lively draw at Carriganore yesterday.

The most crucial score came nine minutes into the second half when a Cian Mac Giolla Bhride pass from out on the sideline found Liam Rushe lurking on the edge of the small square and the Dublin intercounty star gave stand-in WIT goalkeeper Liam Tierney no chance with a well-executed shot which gave the side from the capital a 1-8 to 0-8 lead.

Not for the first time, it was Timmy Hammersley that finished the game as the top scorer, helping himself to all but five of the Waterford College side’s scores, all but two of which came from placed balls.

The sides were level on no fewer than eight times over the hour and when they went in at the break on 0-6 each, it looked likely that the home side would emerge victorious with a strong breeze behind them in the second half.

The highlight of the game was a free struck on his own side’s 65-metre line by Noel McGrath playing against the wind in the second half to level matters at 0-8 a piece.

With Hammersley in fine form from placed balls and Ray McLoughney and Fintan O’Leary hitting points from play for the host side in the final 10 minutes of the game, it looked as if the points were going to stay on Suir side, but a Noel McGrath free and a point from the stick of the impressive Keith Hogan with two minutes to go meant that the points were shared.
