Ulster Senior Cup:A DISAPPOINTING performance by Methodist College still saw them qualify for the Ulster Schools' Cup semi-finals with a 20-0 victory over a gallant Ballyclare High at Pirrie Park.
The young Ballyclare forwards held their own in the first half but as the tie continued they appeared to tire against their formidable opponents. Methody, packed with talent, only went ahead at the end of the first period when fullback Blane McIlroy went in for a try.
The holders were helped in the second half as the visitors started to make basic mistakes and two further tries followed. A break down the middle resulted in Ryan Martin running down the left for Paddy Jackson to convert. The winger added a penalty and Methody dictated the later part of the tie and were justly rewarded with a Mark Gribben try.
Friends’ had a great result when they travelled to Ballymena Academy to earn a 11-11 draw and earn a replay at Lisburn on Saturday. Friends’ led 11-3 at one stage with two Craig Lewsley penalties and a Ben Semple try. Ballymena had two Callum Patterson penalties and a pushover try after Friends’ had a player yellow carded.
Belfast Royal Academy proved too strong for Dalriada 8-0 at Roughfort. They had a Marc Glover try and a Stuart Olding penalty.
