NUIG 0-18 UL 1-5: Stylish NUIG opened their defence of the Sigerson Cup title with a resounding victory over an off-key UL in Limerick yesterday.

Aided by the elements, the visitors had the hard work done in the opening period when they led 0-12 to 0-2, with Michael Meehan and Brendan Colleran their main marksmen.

UL had to wait until 17 minutes for their first score, a point from Kerry star Dave Geaney.

The game was decided three minutes into the second period when Colm Fadden and Colleran added further points.

Ciaran O'Sullivan, introduced as substitute, breathed some life into the UL challenge when he fired past goalkeeper Dave Morris, but NUIG then shot a string of points.
