MICHAEL HOLT celebrated his first start for Preston last night by earning his side a draw against Premiership giants Tottenham in their second round, first leg tie. He took his chance superbly. grabbing the equaliser with only seconds remaining by turning in a cross from Ian Bryson.
It was no more then Preston deserved after going a goal behind after just two minutes through Darren Anderton. They had plenty of possession, great team spirit and no lack of ideas.
Second division Luton were more than a match for their Premiership opposition and Derby Jim Smith will be relieved his team face only a one-goal deficit in the second leg.
Quick and purposeful, Luton were scarcely recognisable from the team which has been struggling to come to terms with a new division after relegation last season. Right back Julian James hit the winner with a low deflected shot from outside the box.
Blackburn scraped their first victory of the season at second division leaders Brentford. Garry Flitcroft and Chris Sutton, with his third goal in as many games, netted for the Premiership's club before Nicky Forster pulled one back for the Bees.

David Hopkin netted twice for the second match running as Crystal Palace, whose manager Dave Bassett is being strongly linked with the Manchester City vacancy, won 3-1 at Bury.
Lee Richardson netted late to bring Oldham a 2-2 draw in their all-first division clash with Tranmere at Boundary Park. Rovers' player-manager John Aldridge fired his seventh goal of the season with a 13th-minute penalty and John Morrissey put Tranmere 2-1 up after Steve Redmond had levelled for Oldham.
