Kilkenny College 41 St Andrew's College 0A HAT-TRICK of second-half tries by outside centre Foster Horan was the highlight as Kilkenny romped to victory in the Leinster Senior Cup.
The south Leinster boys only led 5-0 at half-time, courtesy of Peter Lydon’s early try in the left corner. Although the outhalf missed the conversion and two penalty opportunities, the fact his side was playing into a strong wind made them favourites to stride on in the second half.
With the pack exerting its dominance, that is what happened.
Scrumhalf Patrick O’Driscoll darted over from close range after a Horan break to prompt the collapse. Horan ran over twice soon after, with his second a testament to Kilkenny’s ambition, coming as it did directly from a St Andrew’s restart.
Lydon added the points for all three scores and suddenly the winners were 26 points clear.
O’Driscoll profited from some powerful mauling by his forwards to fall over the line for his second five-pointer and there was still time for replacement Mark Abrahams to cross the whitewash, before supplying Horan with his third try on the brink of full time.
