Wexford SFC Final/ Horeswood 0-14 Adamstown 1-8: Horeswood overcame neighbours Adamstown yesterday to win their first Wexford senior football title. They led for most of the game despite conceding their first goal of the championship to Adamstown captain Paddy Whitty.
Horeswood led 0-9 to 1-2 at half-time but it could have been so much more. They had much more of the possession and although both teams shot the same number of wides during this period Adamstown were lucky to still be within touching distance. PJ Banville was a thorn in Adamstown's side throughout. He scored three first-half points and was unlucky not to have had a goal, his shot brilliantly stopped by John Cooper just before half-time.
Adamstown were unable to deal with Darren O'Reilly who popped up everywhere. Horestown always looked comfortable and at the start of the second half brought on Thomas Howlin who had not played competitively for nearly two years having overcome a cruciate operation. With four of their forwards scoring the load was spread evenly and when Banville dropped into the half-forward line along with the roving Ciarán Deely Adamstown were unable to cope with the runs made off the ball.
Adamstown went 36 minutes either side of half-time without scoring from play.
Ballagh man Brendan Kehoe was Adamstown's best forward and this was ably demonstrated by his second point when coming off the right sideline to land a score from a seemingly impossible angle.
