Tommy Horton posted a closing course record 64 for a 13 under par 203 to win the Clubhaus Seniors' Classic by two shots at Benton Hall in Essex yesterday. It was a back-to-back success for the 56-year-old Royal Jersey professional who won the Scottish Seniors' Open with a closing 62 just seven days ago.

In the process, he has added two more European Seniors' Tour records to his haul - with his fifth win of the season and prize-money of £138,427 putting him at the top of the rankings. That amount is £5,232 better than his Order of Merit topping figure for last year.

Horton, who now goes to Valderrama to assist European captain Seve Ballesteros in the Ryder Cup, said: "Maybe what I have achieved in the Seniors' will carry a little weight among the younger members of our team.

"I must say the old broomstick is working well again. I don't know when this wonderful dream will end. But I'm certainly enjoying myself."

Horton finished two clear of Northern Ireland's David Jones who had started out two in front and shot 68 for 205.

"What do you have to do to beat Tommy?" said Jones. "He putted me off the course over the back nine."

In fact Jones was four ahead after 12 holes but ran into three bogeys over the final six holes.
