TOMMY HORTON, bitterly disappointed at having to settle for fourth place behind winner Brian Barnes in the Senior British Open at Royal Portrush last week, sets out today to achieve a new target.

The 55 year old Royal Jersey professional, currently Europe's top ranking senior with two wins band a record £67,267 in prize money, is aiming to top £100,00 for the season.

And he can give himself a kick start when he tees off today as favourite to win the £75,000 Lawrence Batley Seniors at Fixby, Huddersfield.

Said Horton. "The Senior British title is the one I really want, but now I plan to play in as many of the remaining six tour events as it will take to achieve the £100,000 mark.

"If I pull it off it would be more than four times as much as I won in my best season on the European Tour in 1976.

"It will not only be an important achievement for me, it will also be a measure of the growth in prizes and status of the European Seniors' Tour," he added.

In four previous starts at the Yorkshire venue he has been runner up twice and has also finished third on two occasions.
