UL 0-13 UCD 1-09: A brave UCD side lost out by a single point to three-in-a-row champions UL in a fiercely contested final yesterday. It was a superb afternoon for camogie at the Gaelic Grounds for the Ashbourne Cup final.
The host college got off to a flying start, but a powerful ground shot to the net by Susie O'Carroll kept UCD in touch and they trailed by only two points at the break, 0-8 to 1-3.
UL pulled away in the second period and with four minutes of normal-time remaining they led by four points, However, UCD - led by a superb Rena Buckley - rallied, winning and converting three frees. It was not, however, to be for the Dublin side.
The Ashbourne Shield final earlier in the day proved to be an equally thrilling game, with Cork IT defeating Ashbourne newcomers, the Garda College, by a single point, 0-13 to 1-9.
At the Ashbourne banquet last night, UL's Amanda O'Regan was named player of the tournament.
