England's Rebecca Hudson belied her amateur status, shooting a second round 69 at the halfway stage of the British Women's Open at Woburn yesterday.

The 20-year-old has played 36 holes without a bogey to finish on five under 141 and four behind leader, Iben Tinning of Denmark. "I'm having a wonderful time and this is a great experience," said Hudson, who has hardly played any golf in the past month as she has been suffering from chickenpox.

Tinning added a 69 to her opening 68 and finished in style by holing a 40-yard sand wedge shot for an eagle three at the 514-yard 18th.

On nine under 137, she opened a three-shot gap on the group in second place that included Sweden's Annika Sorenstam.

Sorenstam, who lost her world number one ranking to Australia's Karrie Webb in June, had a 71 in her bid to win the title for a first time.

England's Laura Davies shot a second round 75 and, at one stage, appeared in danger of missing the cut on one over par 147. But, much to her relief, she made it without a shot to spare.
