With the second round suspended due to darkness, Bradley Hughes held the lead after equalling the course record in the Kemper Insurance Open last night.

In another rain-interrupted day, Hughes shot an eight-under par round of 63, to leave him on 133, one shot ahead of Lee Porter and Frank Lickliter, who shot 68 and 65 respectively.

Five players lay a further shot off the lead, including Chris DiMarco, who three-putted two of the first five holes but came roaring back with eight birdies to post a six-under-par 65. He said: "Actually, I knew I was playing good. I just hit a couple of bad putts. The course is there for the taking if you hit it in the fairways."

Two double bogeys at his seventh and eight holes ended Richie Coughlan's interest in the tournament. With the cut expected at level par, Coughlan's second round of 73 for a total of 145 left him three off the target.

Starting out at one over par, Coughlan's day was still on course after six holes but disaster struck at the 16th - his seventh hole - with a double bogey six and followed with another at the par three 17th. A birdie at the 18th was of little consolation as he reached the turn four over 39. He went to five over with another bogey at the fourth but finished eagle, birdie, par, par for his 73 which unfortunately was three too many.
