Goodwood: Iffraaj atoned for his unlucky defeat in the July Cup and gave Godolphin their biggest win of the summer when running away with the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood yesterday.

Sheikh Mohammed's operation narrowly missed out on a Group One win when Iffraaj failed by a rapidly diminishing head at Newmarket last month, but there was no question of defeat this time once Frankie Dettori set the 6 to 4 favourite alight in the final two furlongs.

The well-backed favourite was always well placed and strode clear when asked for maximum effort, pulling right away to pass the post four lengths ahead of Jedburgh, with Assertive a further head back in third.

Dettori said: "I expected there would be more pace in the race. They went very slow for the first three furlongs. When I asked him to go I thought we'd better nick as much as we can as the others would be flying at the end.

"He dug deep and really went clear of the field. He's redeemed himself after an unlucky run in the July Cup. He comes into his own when he runs over seven. There was something there at the end so he could get a mile. He's a nice solid horse."
