IRELAND'S equine favourites Imperial Call (Conor O'Dwyer) and Danoli (Tommy Treacy) were paraded and cantered round the course after the third race at a sunny Tralee yesterday. Not surprisingly, both horses looked as round as barrels, but it will not be long before they are back in action.
Gold Cup winner Imperial Call reappears in the Morris Oil Chase at Clonmel - a race he won last year - on November 7th, followed by the Punchestown Chase at the end of November and the Ericsson Chase at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting. He will then attempt to repeat last year's victories in the Hennessy Gold Cup, also at Leopardstown, and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Danoli will be sent chasing somewhere and some time in November when he is fit", according to trainer Tom Foley.
The Tommy Treacy partnered Another Grouse, who seldom runs a bad race, got up in the last stride to short head Springfort Lady in the featured WinElectric Paget Cup Handicap Chase yesterday. The favourite, Very Little, blundered badly at the seventh fence out and finished lame.
David Casey steered Reeves to a facile success in the Barrys Bakery Novice Hurdle, from Bamapour. Reeves is the second winner of the meeting, following Go Thunder on Monday, for trainer Willie Mullins, just returned from holiday in Portugal. Casey, who also rode a couple of seconds during the afternoon, won the jockey's challenge and £1,500.
Frau Dante landed the odds with ease in the Slieve Mish Maiden Hurdle. Owned and trained by permit holder Austin Fenton in Dungarvan, Co Waterford and ridden by Conor O'Dwyer, this consistent mare was clear of her rivals by the third last. This is the last time she will run over two miles, as her ambitious target is the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Lewis ham was also at short odds for the Brownes Maiden Hurdle but was unplaced behind the Michael Grassick trained Gladiatorial.
