RACING:DAVID WACHMAN hopes Imperial Rome can settle a Classic score in Sunday's French 2,000 Guineas at Longchamp.

It is six years since Indesatchel almost provided the County Tipperary trainer with victory in the €450,000 Poule D’Essai de Poulains only to come up a head short of Shamardal.

Imperial Rome has a similar profile to Indesatchel in that he landed the Tetrarch Stakes at the Curragh on his last start and Wachman has been happy with the colt’s progress since then.

“He has been in good shape since and is progressing well. The bend at Longchamp should help him get the mile,” he said yesterday.

“Indesatchel was only just beaten in the race and he came from a very bad draw.”

Wachman has the option of running both Azores and the unbeaten Park Stakes winner Chrysanthemum in Wednesday’s Musidora Stakes at York but no decision on their participation has been taken.

Aidan O’Brien yesterday didn’t rule out Together from running in Sunday’s French 1,000 Guineas but ruled out Zoffany from the 2,000.

The champion trainer also outlined a Coronation Cup preparation for St Nicholas Abbey who won so impressively at Chester last week while confirming that the Cheshire Oaks winner, Wonder Of Wonders, will be trained for the Oaks.

Roderic O’Connor misses out on this week’s Dante but O’Brien said: “He could go for the Derby and the Irish 2,000 Guineas is a possible for him too.”

Royal Ascot’s Hardwicke Stakes is a possible target for the Ballydoyle star Await The Dawn who was another to impress at Chester last week.
