A round-up of today's other stories in brief
Ivory Coast into quarters
World Cup qualifiers Ivory Coast secured their place in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations at the expense of Libya - but hosts Egypt have to wait.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba gave the Ivorians a 10th-minute lead in their 2-1 win against Libya by capitalising on defensive disarray. The North Africans equalised with Kames Ezwae's header just before the break.
Both sides had chances to win it in the second half as Libya's Nader Amhimed Karra hit the post and Ivory Coast were denied two penalties, but Yaya Toure eventually provided the decisive goal courtesy of a speculative header with 16 minutes left.
Egypt must wait before making plans for the last eight after being held to a goalless draw by Morocco. The hosts were roared on at the International Stadium in Cairo, but Hassan Shehata's men failed to sparkle in a game of few clear-cut chances.
The draw means Egypt, who now have four points from two games, are favourites to follow Ivory Coast from Group A. Morocco must beat Libya in their final fixture and hope Ivory Coast can maintain their 100 per cent record against Egypt.
'Bung' inquiry launched
England's Premier League vowed to "get to the bottom" of allegations of corruption when it announced an inquiry into illegal transfer payments yesterday.
League chief executive Richard Scudamore said the inquiry would be headed by an independent legal professional and would focus on transfers made since January 2004.
The announcement follows Sunday's News of the World newspaper quoting England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson as saying three unnamed Premier League clubs had been involved in "bungs".
Last week the English FA spoke to Luton manager Mike Newell after he said he had been offered illegal inducements. QPR manager Ian Holloway also said he had been offered a bung by an agent.
