Sachin Tendulkar was the only front-line batsman not to take advantage of a slow wicket as India piled on the runs to reach 401 for five after the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Nagpur yesterday. The Indian skipper was bowled round his legs by Ravindra Pushpakumara for 15, while his side extended their total from 133 for one after the rain-hit first day.

Rahul Dravid led India's run hunt against the limited Sri Lankan attack with a polished 92. Navjot Sidhu (79), Mohammad Azharuddin (62) and Saurav Ganguly (67 not out) also helped themselves to easy pickings.

With their bowlers unable to make an impression, the Sri Lankan batsmen were left with a battle of attrition over the next three days to save the Test.

"The wicket had something for the bowlers on the first day but it played well today," Indian coach Anshuman Gaekwad said.
