Indigo Dawn, though something of a madam, is in a co-operative mood at present and can complete a hat-trick in Southwell's Cambridgeshire Handicap today. The Rainbow Quest filly has shown her share of temperament, flashing her tail under pressure, sticking her head in the air and stopping when she gets to the front. But she also has a good deal of ability, which has enabled her to get to the front in the first place.

Following a string of placed efforts in 1996 she got off the mark in a maiden race at Hamilton last July before going on to score in a handicap at Warwick and then showing her suitability for sand in a similar race here later that month.

She returned to winning form in December in a two-mile handicap on the equitrack at Lingfield.

Four furlongs from the finish and things did not look good for her backers as she was being scrubbed along by Dean McKeown to keep up with her opponents. But she responded to lead inside the final furlong and had a length to spare over Rose of Glenn at the post. Indigo Dawn is very much a stayer, so two miles round Southwell would suit her better than the same distance round Lingfield's sharper configuration. Still racing from a fair mark and in this sort of form, Indigo Dawn will take some stopping.
