ENGLAND LOCK Simon Shaw faces an anxious wait to discover the severity of the shoulder injury he suffered in Saturday’s defeat by Ireland.

Shaw saw a specialist yesterday and the results of the review and a scan of his left a/c joint will be discussed by the England and Wasps medical team today.

The England management confirmed fullback Delon Armitage suffered rib cartilage damage in the second half but there is no immediate timescale for his return either. Both players have an extra week to recover with the Six Nations taking a week’s break.

England’s next match is against Scotland at Murrayfield on March 13th.

With Shaw and Armitage sidelined, Leicester lock Louis Deacon and Northampton fullback Ben Foden will join England’s training camp at Pennyhill Park today.

Both players came off the bench in the 20-16 defeat to Ireland and would be next in line for a start in their respective positions.

England manager Martin Johnson is keeping his starting XV plus Deacon, Foden and Bath tighthead prop David Wilson in camp this week.

The rest of the bench from Saturday’s game and the 10 elite squad members who were not involved against Ireland will remain with their clubs and are available for Premiership action at the weekend.
