Injuries give Kidney reason to think

News: When Declan Kidney came into the Munster dressingroom after their successful outing at Ravenhill on Friday night one of the first things the players said to him was "you can't change a winning team coach".

As Kidney then said: "It will be an interesting one come training on Sunday alright."

The Munster coach was forced to reshuffle his side for the Magners Celtic League clash with Ulster following the withdrawal of lock Chris Wyatt and wing Barry Murphy.

Murphy pulled out because of illness, which meant that Brian Carney made his debut, while Shane O'Connor was promoted to partner Donncha Ryan in the secondrow. Ross Noonan was named on the bench along with under-20 international Keith Earls.

The change in personnel indicates what sort of injury problems Kidney has to deal with going into this Heineken European Cup quarter-final week.

Irish secondrow Paul O'Connell and Shaun Payne will definitely not take part in next Friday's meeting with Llanelli, while doubts continue to surround John Kelly, Mick O'Driscoll, Anthony Horgan, Freddie Pucciariello and Anthony Foley.

That John O'Sullivan earned himself the man of the match award will encourage Kidney to look at him for a backrow position but he may well have to further dip into the team that successfully put Ulster to the sword.

The inexperienced rugby league convert Carney could well find himself back in the starting team if Kelly, Horgan and Murphy do not recover in time.

Leinster, who face Wasps at the weekend, reported no injury concerns following their victory over Connacht at Donnybrook. Brian O'Driscoll will not make the pitch because of his enduring hamstring injury, giving coach Michael Cheika just one important decision to make in the centre positions.

Given that Kieran Lewis went in at 13 to partner Gordon D'Arcy against Connacht, the two will probably line out together in Adams Park.
