Inter on course for fourth

Inter Milan's hopes of Champions League football next season were given a major boost with a 1-0 win over Parma yesterday

Inter Milan's hopes of Champions League football next season were given a major boost with a 1-0 win over Parma yesterday. Brazilian Adriano's 62nd-minute goal against his former club secured a vital win for Inter who are now in fourth place, a point ahead of Parma who had Emanuele Blasi sent off in the 78th minute.

Lazio's chances of earning the second Champions League qualifying round place now look slim after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Brescia. Former European Player of the Year Roberto Baggio scored for Brescia in his final home game before retirement, leaving Lazio three points behind Inter in sixth place.

Newly crowned champions AC Milan suffered only their second defeat of the season with a 2-1 reverse at lowly Reggina that secured Serie A survival for the Calabrians. A spectacular goal in the eighth minute from David Di Michele and a 30th-minute penalty by Francesco Cozza gave Reggina a 2-0 lead over a weakened Milan side. Andriy Shevchenko pulled one back for Carlo Ancelotti's team with a header just after the break.

Second-placed Roma also lost, relegation threatened Perugia beating them 3-1 at a neutral venue in Palermo.
