Weather permitting, the Irish women's cricket team will finally get in to action in the World Cup in India today, where they are due to play Denmark in Group A of the tournament. After almost a month of constant rain the sun made a welcome appearance in the skies over Madras on Tuesday afternoon and if it shines long enough to dry the soggy outfield at the city's MAC Stadium the match should go ahead.

Having been awarded three points for a draw from their abandoned match against Australia on Tuesday the Irish can take a giant leap towards a place in the quarter-finals if they beat Denmark today.

The top four teams in the group go through to the last eight and with England, Australia and South Africa expected to fill the top three places, and Pakistan tipped to finish bottom, the result of today's match is crucial.

Today's Fixtures - Group A: Ireland v Denmark, Madras; England v Pakistan, Vijayavada; Australia v South Africa, Bangalore.
