Ireland's World Team Squash Championship campaign in Malaysia ended in defeat on Saturday when they lost their final play-off match to Scotland to finish in 16th place overall - one spot lower than their 1995 placing. However, there was some consolation for the Irish when Derek Ryan fought back from a twogame deficit to beat Martin Heath, leaving him with a 100 per cent winning record. The Collins brothers, Maurice and Chris, went on to lose close matches to Stuart Cowie and David Heath, to give Scotland victory.

Meanwhile, England retained their title with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Canada in the final. Simon Parke, Chris Walker and Del Harris had straight-games wins over their opponents - Jonathan Power, Gary Waite and Graham Ryding - who had beaten the English 2-1 in their Pool A meeting last Tuesday.
