Women's International/Ireland 7 Wales 14: After their win over Spain three weeks ago, Ireland were hoping to make it two wins from two at Donnybrook this season on Saturday.
But with no real platform to work from off the lineouts, Ireland struggled to convert their possession for most of the game.
But they competed well up in front with wing forward Rachel Boyd foraging well against a Welsh team who were determined to put right last year's reversal which had cost them a place in this summer's World cup.
Ireland had begun well and would have been disappointed not to have registered an early score when a more accurate pass from Patrique Kelly would have sent Suzanne Fleming in for a try on the left.
And, as was the pattern in this game, Wales, having soaked up the pressure, went in front with two penalties inside the half hour from fullback Non Evans.
Evans was then the benefactor of some wonderful play from outhalf Naomi Thomas who having slipped three tackles offloaded to Evans for a try in injury time.
Ireland, trailing 11-0 at the interval, deservedly made their mark on 53 minutes. Two minutes earlier Wales had frontrow Louise Horgan sin binned, and with the extra player, Ireland made the line through secondrow Germaine Healy.
A knock on in front of the posts shortly afterwards denied Ireland a second try with Evans sending over her third penalty of the game with 10 minutes to go.
