Ireland aim to gain maximum benefit from their participation in the Presidents Gold Cup nine-nation invitation tournament in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where next week they meet China, Malaysia, Pakistan and Egypt in Pool B.
"Despite the intimidating nature of the opposition, the players always want to play against the best," said coach John Clarke. "It's a fabulous opportunity to continue the rebuilding which started in the Celtic Cup and Edinburgh tournaments last year."
The match against China on Monday will be the first game between the countries. The assignment against powerful Pakistan - who have handsomely won all five meetings to date - may also be of special significance.
