Brendan O'Shea will captain the Irish team in the inaugural European Team pitch and putt championship at the West Park course in Chelmsford, Essex next weekend. The other members of the team are Liam O'Donovan (Bruff), Frank O'Donoghue (Templebreedy), Derry McCarthy (Deerpark) and Junior Smith of Lucan. Frank Smith (IGB) will manage the side.

All five members of the side have been showing good form recently, with O'Donovan shooting 92 around his home course for the 36 holes to win the Munster Strokeplay championship, O'Shea teaming up with his wife Margaret to win the best gross in the Dublin Scotch Foursomes and O'Donoghue helping Templebreedy to win the Cork Senior League title.

Six teams are competing in the championships and Ireland have been drawn in group one with Catalonia and France, and play both on Friday. England, Italy and Holland make up group two. The top two teams in each group qualify for the semi-finals.
