TOULON TOURNAMENT/ReportRepublic of Ireland 2; Germany 2;  Jim Goodwin was sent off for the second time in six games as the Republic of Ireland twice threw away the lead and then hung on for a draw with Germany in La Seyne.

Following three successive defeats, much improved display brought Ireland a 38th-minute lead courtesy.

John O'Shea was left unmarked at the back post to get in a firm downward header to Thomas Butler's deep corner.

Two minutes into the second half, Irish goalkeeper Graham Stack made his first save of the night to parry a shot from substitute Benjamin Auer, but Christian Tiffert latched onto the rebound to equalise.

Reid restored Ireland's lead seven minutes later when his header from Keith Foy's cross was deemed to have crossed the line before he followed up to convert the rebound off Heimeroth.

Goodwin's dismissal following an off-the-ball clash with Maik Franz on 67 minutes swung the initiative Germany's way.

Three minutes later, Liam Miller handled a cross from Tiffert to allow Benjamin Auer to equalise from the penalty spot.
