The Irish women's tennis team maintained their excellent form to beat Kenya 3-0 in Estoril, Portugal yesterday to stay on course for a Fed Cup group decider on Saturday in the Euro African promotion series. All four Irish players - Yvonne Doyle, Kelly Liggan, Gina Niland and Elsa O'Riain - were confident on the slow clay courts and none of the matches lasted more than an hour.
Kelly Liggan opened the Irish onslaught with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Esther Mbugua in 50 minutes and Yvonne Doyle followed up with a similar display of authority, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Evelyn Otula.
The Irish doubles pairing of Gina Niland and Elsa O Riain polished off the challenge of Christine Lukalo and Wanjiru Mbugua 6-2, 6-2 to compete the whitewash. Lowther forecasts another decisive win against Mauritius today.
