The goals keep coming for Niall Quinn and Robbie Keane, but the season is going from bad to worse for Keith O'Neill and Graham Kavanagh.

Quinn and Keane drew level with Cardiff's Kevin Nugent on 15 goals, at the top of the Irish scorers' list, on Saturday, but O'Neill missed a penalty for Norwich, in a 2-0 defeat by Stockport, and was then forced to withdraw from the Irish squad with a thigh strain, having received a late call-up from Mick McCarthy. Meanwhile Kavanagh, who's in the Irish B squad, picked up his second red card of the season, to add to his 10 bookings, in Stoke's 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

Also in Division Two Irish under-18 captain Gary Doherty scored the winner for Luton away to Burnley while Colchester centre half David Greene, a former Irish under-21, scored his sixth goal of the season to give his side a 2-1 win over York on Friday night.

In Division Three Glen Crowe, a member of Brian Kerr's squad at the 1997 World Youth Championships, made his debut for Plymouth on Saturday after joining on a free transfer from Wolves last week. Irish under-21 goalkeeper Dan Connor (18) made his home debut for Peterborough, in Saturday's 5-2 win over Barnet, just a month after resuming playing following two serious knee injuries.

On the move: Carlisle are awaiting a response from Nottingham Forest after making a £250,000 bid for Paul McGregor, the striker who is eligible to play for the Republic, but Leeds' Alan Maybury is staying put - his proposed loan move to Dunfermline has been called off by David O'Leary, following confirmation that Gary Kelly will be out for the season.

Abroad: Tony Cascarino gave Nancy the lead away to Lyon on Saturday, but they went on to lose 2-1. The goal was Cascarino's ninth of the season - the same tally as Marseille's Fabrizio Ravanelli.
