Premiership: Five Republic of Ireland internationals face a stomach-churning end to the season next Sunday when Blackburn (away to Newcastle) and Charlton (home to Sheffield Wednesday) need wins to have any chance of avoiding relegation (although Blackburn must first beat Manchester United on Wednesday night to keep their survival hopes alive) - the five are Lee Carsley, Damien Duff, Jeff Kenna (out injured), Jason McAteer (Blackburn) and Mark Kinsella (Charlton).

Division One: Niall Quinn brought his season's goal tally to 21 yesterday in Sunderland's 2-0 win over Birmingham - Gareth Whalley and Andy O'Brien (senior and under-21 Irish internationals respectively) will join him in the Premiership next season after Bradford won promotion yesterday. Matt Holland's Ipswich Town had to settle for a play-off place (as had former Irish goalkeeper Keith Branagan's Bolton Wanderers). Meanwhile, Dean Kiely, another Irish goalkeeper, suffered relegation to the second division with Bury.

Division Two: Steve Finnan, called up to the last senior Irish squad, will be playing first division football next season after Fulham's promotion but, assuming they stay with their clubs, Dave Savage (Northampton), Peter Gain (Lincoln) and Macclesfield's Kieron Durkan and Darren Lonergan drop down to division three. Division Three: Brentford's Irish quartet of Danny Boxall, Tony Folan, Robert Quinn and Martin Rowlands (who still hasn't made up his mind whether to declare for the Republic or England) will join Cardiff's Seamus Kelly, Kevin Nugent and Wayne O'Sullivan in the second division next season after winning promotion.

Scotland: Dunfermline's defeat on Saturday by Celtic (for whom Colin Healy made his full debut after coming on as a sub in the Old Firm Derby) means former Irish striker Owen Coyle will be playing first division football next season.
