SOCCER:STEFANO Mauri inspired leaders Lazio to a 2-1 victory over Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico yesterday as they posted their fourth consecutive win in the competition.
The Italy international set up the opener for Sergio Floccari in the 21st minute before scoring his side’s second shortly after the restart. Alessandro Matri pulled one back for Cagliari before the hour mark but it was not enough to topple Lazio, who now hold a four-point advantage at the top.
Inter Milan lost ground on the leaders as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Sampdoria.
The defending champions were trailing to Stefano Guberti’s 63rd-minute goal until Samuel Eto’o forced home the equaliser 10 minutes from time.
Roma coach Claudio Ranieri’s position is likely to come under further scrutiny this week after his side played out a dour goalless draw at struggling Parma, while Juventus were left to rue Vincenzo Iaquinta’s first-half penalty miss as they were held to the same result by Bologna.
