RACING:TODAY'S TOTEJACKPOT fund is expected to reach the £1 million mark on the first day of the Betfred Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket. The bet was not won at Redcar yesterday, with two punters going down in the last leg, meaning a rollover of £550,853 carried forward to the card at Headquarters.

A total of £239,099 was bet into pool at Redcar and just £1.50 was left heading into the final piece of the jigsaw, a seller, with all units on eventual favourite Dance For Julie. A Betfair customer had £1 of the remaining tickets while a Ladbrokes client had the other 50p.

However, Ben Haslam’s filly could not land a blow as Yorksters Prince made all, meaning the jackpot has now rolled over for eight days, having last been won at Yarmouth on Tuesday last week.

Meanwhile, Brendan Fahey, son of farrier Tommy and brother to fellow amateur rider Mark, rode his first winner under Rules when guiding his uncle Paul Fahey’s Point The Toes to success in the Allied Bakeries Handicap Hurdle at Downpatrick yesterday.

Point The Toes is owned by the rider’s grandmother and trainer’s mother, Maureen, and the Atraf mare needed the full treatment from her young rider to get up and deny Breeze With Ease by two and a quarter lengths.

Brendan (19), who has a point-to-point win to his credit, took a day off from his course in outdoor activities and geography in Castlebar to take the ride.

His father Tommy was on hand to welcome back Point The Toes to the winner’s enclosure. The success for the Tramore maiden winner wasn’t unexpected either as she was supported from a morning price of 11 to 1 down to her starting price of 11 to 2.

Of course Brendan now joins his brother Mark and cousins James and Ciara as winning amateur riders.
