US Tour/St Jude Championship:Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson shot a three-under-par 67 to share the first round lead with Australian Adam Scott in gusty conditions at the £3million St Jude Championship in Memphis.

Jacobson, starting at the 10th, had birdies at 11 and 12 and although he bogeyed the 239-yard 14th he picked up another stroke at the long 16th.

Further back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth lifted him to four under but he slipped back with a bogey-four at the short eighth.

His score was later matched by the world number four, who had a bizarre round.

Scott's first impression on the scorecard was a double-bogey six at the second where he was twice in the rough on his way to the green, then found a bunker and failed to get up and down.

But he immediately clawed back those two dropped shots with an 18-foot eagle putt at the 554-yard next.

He then went bogey-par-birdie to reach the turn at level par but improved his consistency coming home, picking up shots at the 10th, 13th and 16th.

Only seven players broke par and Jacobson said: "Anybody that shoots under par will be really happy with where they are at the moment, and I feel that I'm right where I want to be."

Of his early troubles Scott said: "It was nice to get it straight back and try to get moving in the right direction.

"The main thing was not to compound the problem and keep going in the wrong direction."

South African Retief Goosen is in a tie for third place with Brian Gay after a two-under-par 68 while Londoner Brian Davis was in a huge group in joint eighth on level par.

Ireland's Padraig Harrington fared worse at four over alongside fellow Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia.
