JEFFELL ran out the impressive winner of the Waterford Crystal Novice Chase at Clonmel yesterday to book his place in the Dennys Gold Medal Chase at Leopardstown later this month.

Jumping as well as he did when successful at Punchestown last time, Arthur Moore's grey had little difficulty in beating his rivals.

Equally impressive at her fences was Woodville Star, who was unchallenged in winning the Tatlersalls EBF Mares Beginners Chase, making all the running under Garrett Cotler to score by 10 lengths.

Running over hurdles for the first time, the Aidan O'Brien-trained Toast The Spreece landed the Tipperary Maiden Hurdle in convincing fashion. Although he blundered when stepping at the second last hurdle, his only mistake, the 9 to 4 favourite was never off the bridle in beating outsider Ziggy The Great by three and a half lengths.

Winning rider Charlie Swan went on to complete a double when landing 14 to 1 chance Whitby the length winner of the Merck Sharp & Dohme Eqvalan Handicap Chase.
