JEFFELL ran out the impressive winner of the Waterford Crystal Novice Chase at Clonmel yesterday to book his place in the Dennys Gold Medal Chase at Leopardstown later this month.

Running over hurdles for the first time, the Aidan O'Brien-trained Toast The Spreece landed the Tipperary Maiden Hurdle in convincing fashion. Although he blundered when stepping at the second last hurdle, his only mistake, the 9 to 4 favourite was never off the bridle in beating outsider Ziggy The Great by three and a half lengths.
